Submissions for "Don't Be Trashy" art competition are now closed. Thank you to all of the artists who participated in 2014.

We all know about reducing, reusing and recycling, so we're adding a twist: expressing sustainability through art! Grab some friends to submit a project as a group, or summon your creative genius and fly solo!

Competition information:
  • Voting takes place in CMU Park Library main hallway from 7-8 p.m. on Monday, April 21 during the hour before the ECOtalks program.
  • A group winner and an individual winner will be announced during the ECO Talks program at 8 p.m.
  • Both winners will be displayed at Thursday night's Brew Planet art gallery at Mt. Pleasant Brewing Company
Don't be trashy--recycle!
Submission guidelines:
  • Any individual or group within the CMU community may submit an art project. A group may consist of no more than five (5) people. Fraternities, sororities, student organizations, residence halls and other groups are encouraged to join this friendly competition and help build awareness about single-use waste.
  • At least 90% of your creation must be trash/recyclable/reused materials (not something you bought specifically for this competition). [Come on, we're trying to get a message across!]
  • Creation can be any size but the artist(s) must be able to transport it into the Park Library main hallway for display and voting.
  • Creation can be 1-D or 3-D (sculpture).
  • We request an informational abstract about the piece's materials be submitted and displayed during the exhibition. Abstract should include: what it is, why you made it, what it’s made of, where you sourced the materials, etc.
  • Online application must be submitted online by Wednesday, April 16 for consideration.
  • Someone must be present by 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 21 at Park Library (main hallway, 1st floor) to set up before voting begins.
  • Be a dear; make sanitary considerations (no smelly, rotting, dripping, etc. items).
